Exercise can help your mood but it isn't enough - you need to work through grief, anxiety and overwhelm as well.
Exercise can help your mood but it isn't enough - you need to work through grief, anxiety and overwhelm as well.

When most people want to feel better, they think: I need to exercise more.

And to be fair—movement can be a powerful tool. A short walk, a dance party in your kitchen, or a good stretch can boost your mood, lower stress, and even clear your mind. Exercise gets endorphins flowing, supports sleep, and improves energy.

But here's the thing no one talks about:

If you’re not caring for your emotional wellness too, no amount of squats is going to make you feel better.

You can move your body daily and still feel anxious, sad, disconnected, or stuck. You can eat your greens and still be emotionally exhausted. You can check all the "healthy" boxes—and still feel like you're falling apart inside.

They Go Hand in Hand—But They’re Not the Same

Your physical and emotional wellness are deeply connected. One affects the other in ways that are hard to ignore.

✔️ Physical stress (like poor sleep or chronic pain) can increase emotional strain.

✔️ Emotional stress (like grief, anxiety, or burnout) can show up physically—through headaches, fatigue, tight shoulders, digestive issues, and more.

That means supporting one can often help the other—but it doesn’t mean you can skip one altogether.

You can’t out-run your overwhelm. You can’t out-lunge your grief. You can’t yoga your way around hard conversations or old emotional wounds.

So What Does Real Support Look Like?

It looks like listening to your body and your heart. It means checking in with how you feel—not just how much you’re doing.

Physical wellness includes things like:

  • Moving your body in ways that feel good (and skipping the guilt when it doesn’t)

  • Getting enough sleep

  • Nourishing yourself with food that satisfies and sustains you

  • Hydration and basic self-care

Emotional wellness includes things like:

  • Having safe people to talk to

  • Journaling or processing your thoughts

  • Saying no when you need to protect your energy

  • Taking breaks from screens or stressors

  • Feeling your feelings without judgment

The most important part? Doing what works for you. Not what someone else says you "should" be doing.

I'm Not Here to Tell You What to Do

As a coach, I don’t hand down a list of rules. I walk with you—helping you figure out which small shifts will actually fit your life, your energy, and your values.

And if you’re feeling drained or disconnected, we don’t start with a new workout plan.We look at why you’re feeling that way—physically, emotionally, and everything in between.

💜 You deserve to feel better—not just in your body, but in your whole self.

Next week, I’ll be diving into intellectual and financial wellness (yes, those matter too!). Until then, take a breath and check in with yourself:

✨ How’s your body doing?

✨ And how’s your heart?

Both deserve care.
